Following the installation of External Wall Insulation, Jim a colleague of UK Alternative Energy wanted to make the most of his hipped roof with Solar PV.
The majority of roof areas in the UK are hipped, which means they have irregular faces. This can make it difficult to fill all of the available space on the roof with solar PV modules.
After our survey of the house, we could only install 2.5kw using traditional rectangular panels, so it was agreed to utilise the space at the end of each row with Trienergia panels.
UK Alternative Energy installed a 3kw split system on the front roof and on the rear along with an immerSUN to utilise unused electric to heat Jim’s water. Jim was very happy at how well the panels blended in to the existing structure.
We also used SolarEdge power optimisers to maximise energy from each panel through constant tracking of Maximum Power Point per panel. Optimal efficiency is achieved by automatically maintaining a fixed string voltage and performance can be monitored via the SolarEdge monitoring portal. These optimisers will provide up to 25% more energy.
This split system will save Jim £150 a year on electricity as well as generate £335 through the Government FIT and Export within it’s first year*.
