Rainwater Harvesting – Nursery, Bedfordshire - Rainwater Harvesting
About The Project
LowC Communities Ltd designed and constructed a unique flagship low carbon building for Bedfordshire East Schools Trust (BEST) Nursery, a foundation and charitable organisation. The new £2.2M low-carbon building offers office accommodation, community facilities, conference rooms and a brand new state of the art nursery for infants ranging from 3 months to 5 years old.
Following successful installations in the past, UK Alternative Energy was enlisted again to provide a rainwater harvesting system to supply all the toilets in the nursery. After conducting a survey, the proposal was to install a 6,500 litres below ground rainwater collection system, with the calculated benefits of saving the cost of 200,000 litres of mains water usage per annum. The new system has continued to be monitored and the new rainwater storage system has provided over 90% of their total water needs, a massive saving on water bills and sewerage charges.
