The Problem

Apple Tree Nursery in Witham St Hugh’s was a new build, developed by local construction contractors, Gelder Group. The challenge here was ensuring the newly developed educational facility was energy efficient. Working closely with Nigel Smith Plumbing and Mechanical Services, UK Alternative Energy provided the Air Source Heat Pumps alongside the nursery plumbing.

The Solution

The team installed two 16kw Samsung EHS Air Source Heat Pumps, 100-litre buffer tank and 150-litre hot water cylinder, which work to power the underfloor heating system and give the nursery constant hot water.

The system was set up as a master-slave system, which means the second unit only comes on when the outside temperature drops below a set point. This increases the efficiency of the system as well as keep running costs low. Perfect for the nursery setting.
