The Problem

A project that required the conversion of an old stable block, married with a new build extension, all of which needed to make the property more energy efficient, and subsequently have lower energy bills.

The Solution

Nestled on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds, is Mole’s Cottage. Today, this bolt-hole is a luxurious self-catering cottage set within the grounds of a private house. Once used as a stable block before being converted and extended to a high standard, the property now consists of a utility room, separate cloakroom, large kitchen/dining room, lounge and two good-sized en-suite bedrooms. There’s a large log cabin containing a seven-seat hot tub and toilet facilities which are fully enclosed and paved too.

So, where did UK Alternative Energy come in? Well, during the process of converting the stable block into a cottage, the owners wanted to make the property more energy efficient, and subsequently have lower energy bills. We installed underfloor heating throughout the cottage, which is provided by a Panasonic Air Source Heat Pump. The team also installed a 3.06kW Solar PV system which utilises the Eddi hot water controller (a local Lincolnshire product) to divert surplus energy on unoccupied days to heat the hot water for free.
